Advice needed: male fertility issues

Today I heard from a dear friend- him and his wife have been trying to conceive for a bit now. She has issues, low progesterone and possible non-ovulation, but thankfully Clomid seems to be doing the trick for her. Well, they finally did a sem.en analysis and got the results back: He was told he has morphology issues and concentration issues. Obviously they are both feeling rather down right now because this yet another thing.

So, I was wondering if any of your husbands or even known someone with these things. I knew I had read something on some blogs at one point (wow-that's a very specific! ;)) but can't recall which ones. So help me out if you can.

Also, I was wondering since they did the SA the Catholic way-pricked condom-could maybe that play a factor in the concentration part? Just curious.

Anyways, if you guys have any advice that would be greatly appreciated. And if you don't, well if you don't mind offering up a prayer for them, that would be greatly appreciated also.

Thanks in advanced.

Prayers. I bet right now the blow feels ten-fold.
I'll pray for this family.

We had to re-do a SA because Mr. JB swimmers didn't do well, but the second time the numbers improved. Our Napro doctor also put him on some pretty heavy-duty vitamins to help with the little swimmers.

No idea on the se.men.

But prayers are going this family's way.

(Oh, and can I put your 'don't let comparison' button on my blog? I'll link back to the post you wrote about it when people click on it :)).

There is a ton to do. =)

Vitamins can help tremendously, specially one called pro.xeed which is a mix . This has greatly improved numbers, speed and even morphology on several men I know. As dramatic as from 7 million sperm to 38 million in 6 months. Also Pycnogenol is highly recommended for this.
Another important thing: did they do Kruger morpholgy (called strict and used mainly for IVF) or general one? The first one considers that sperm need to look perfect in order to be ferilte and the percentage to pass is 14%. Dr. H considers this test to be not useful as it considers only shape and its for IVF. Many men with low morphology nrs due to Kruger can fertilze an egg. It really pushes people into IUI or IVF. If needed give them my email. I can discuss with them in depth since DH had some issues due to a varicocele.

My husband had some low numbers, but no mobility issues. He took an antibiotic to reduce some swelling in a vein that could have been killing the sperm as they exited, as well as FISH OIL which is AMAZING for male infertility! The first month he was on treatment, we conceived. It was my 3rd month on clomid. Sounds like they are very close to answered prayer!

I second what Martha says...we did a post coital and it was "good" but a SA showed lower mobility. Proxeed is supposed to help that and that's what my husband has been on for the last three months (it takes 70 days to take effect). i do wonder how much the way we collect it makes a difference, and because the guys can change so quickly, I would definitely recommend getting a 'second test' to make sure it wasn't just a fluke. I think More like Mary had that happen to them. i also know that there is some varicole surgery you can do that I think is allowed...they should look it up...

Thanks guys! I know it will bring them great relief when I share with them what y'all had to say.

And of course Rebecca, you can steal the picture (or button or whatever it's called!). I actually got it from pinterest but cropped out some other things from the top! :)

Proxeed does seem to be what is recommended by Dr. Hilgers/medical consultants, but assuming a husband is already taking a high quality multi-vitamin (which takes care of most of the Proxeed active ingredients), one could simply add L-carnitine, L-arginine, and CoQ10.

We never had a sperm analysis, but the first cycle we tried after my husband began taking the above additional supplements (I think he had been on them for 2- 2 1/2 months?) we conceived.

This is from TCIE, not me:

DH does have low morphology, at one point even as low as 4%. (That's 4% that were actually formed WELL, haha!) - but even the top fertility specialists we consulted thought it was not a big deal. I guess because the sperm are maturing every day, and in 3-6 months there is a whole new group, etc. So, it's not like having a severely low count or low motility. One of our Drs, a proponent of IVF, even told Rob that with his count so high, even if 1% of them were formed well he's fine.

Dammit. Haha. Some days, I'd really like to be able to blame him for everything, including our infertility ;)

Anyway, we did the Proxeed Plus ingredients from this website and it did improve things:

www.discount-vitamins-herbs.net/mens-fertility.htm

You can share that with her. I'm at work, so not sure when I'll be able to get on blogs again.

You ladies ROCK! It makes me happy knowing that I can share this with them and they know it's not the end of the world (you know how we all have felt when we received that first initial results, the ones that said something was wrong!) and that they should hold on to that hope!

Thanks again!!

I too would suggest re-doing the test. My husband's numbers were 'good' but the Dr said we could improve them further with some vitamin supplements. They are from 'fair.haven health' called Fertil.Aid and Motili.tyBoost. There were others, but these two were specifically suggested.

I will keep them in my prayers.

When a couple is having difficulties conceiving it is common for the woman to assume that the problems are on her end. However, in about half of the cases, it is the man who is suffering from the fertility problems.
